6th/13th Beaver Scouts Celebrate Winning Kent Scout Community Project Award

6th/13th Beaver Scouts Celebrate Winning Kent Scout Community Project Award

The spirit of community service and the Scouting ethos have come together to recognize the outstanding efforts of our Beaver colony by winning the coveted Community Project Award at the Kent Scout's annual award ceremony. This achievement is not just a testament to the dedication of the Beavers but also a shining example of the positive impact that scouting can have on local communities.

The Kent Scouts Community Project Award

The Kent Scouts Community Project Award is an annual accolade that acknowledges outstanding efforts in community service and impact. It's a reflection of the core Scouting values of helping others, making a positive change, and learning and growing through doing.

Speaking to Lesley our Beaver Colony leader, she said

I put us forward for the Seasalter beach clean. The Beavers have done such a brilliant job for two years to clean the beach. The first year it was mentioned in a log chew by a Beaver at the time that when he was on holiday with his family they had seen a group of cubs cleaning the beach there. So I emailed plastic free Faversham group who offered equipment and a quick talk - we arranged a date and Sonnia turned up. I also consulted SAS who sent some rubbish bags, gloves etc.

When we had another log chew at the end of last year, the favourite thing the majority of Beavers had said they had done was ……. you guessed Beach Clean.

This year Sonnia was up for helping again, and I got Canterbury Council to collect the rubbish, not like last year when I took it home. I had thought this year it should be based in Faversham but it’s such a nice night at the beach and everyone enjoyed themselves.

The Winning Project

This project captured the essence of Scouting and we’re delighted to be engaging our young members in such a positive way and for this to be recognised in the District and for the project to have a wonderful impact on our nearby beaches.

Our Beavers should feel very proud of what they’ve achieved. They learned the value of hard work, teamwork, and the joy of giving back to the community. The Beavers involved in this project learned life skills that will stay with them throughout their Scouting journey and into adulthood.
